MootoX YBB 29er at an old mining site north of Death Valley
Rough and loose stuff to get to some of these sites at grades up to 12% or so; the YBB mechanism add great comfort and control while descending.
Ascending, the YBB mechanism is most definitely not an advantage over the hard-tail Moots MootoX RSL (see riding notes), with regular sections of fist-sized and larger rocks, some smooth and some jagged, all overlaid on loose gravel mixed with sand. Tough going with a pack and an average grade of 7% or so. The YBB mechanism does not have the trail feel or instant response of a hard-tail, and that makes it a bit harder to get through the “max heart rate” sections.
Much tougher going on sections like this. It looks not that bad, but it gets worse, and the grade is very steep. A hardtail works better on such stuff when ascending, but descending the YBB softtail is rather more comfortable.
